Now we turn our attention to the study of three prominent women writers: Flannery O’Connor, Margaret Atwood, and Eudora Welty.

First read the introductory material on page 565-69. Then read about theme on pages 429-33. As always, take notes on any ideas new to you.

Then, read each of their stories – “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” (516; see also the excerpts from her letters and literary commentators that follow), “Lusus Nature” (260; see the introductory material on monsters in literature), and “Why I live at the P.O.” (719).

Discussion Post due, with reply,: What similarities in subject matter (e.g. character types, themes, conflicts) do you find in all three stories? Be specific. Avoid generalizations.
